"Advocacy can play a significant role in enabling refugees and asylum seekers to secure their rights and represent their interests."
Hence the need to set up ERAD. Our motto is self-advocacy as encapsulated in this African proverb:
"give a man a fish, you feed him for a day but show him how to fish and you feed him for life".
The conception of ERAD dates back to November 2003 in Gent, Belgium at a three day conference which was jointly organised under the auspices of the European Council for Refugees and Exiles (ECRE).
"ERAD has an important and distinctive role to play in ensuring that the voices of asylum seekers and refugees are directly represented and heard in the most effective way at European level. There is in my view, real need for the perspectives to be represented and heard and ERAD will meet this important need."
Jean Lambert, MEP, Green Party
